How the Mainstream Media is Spoiling Your Subconscious Mind and Shaping You

How the Mainstream Media is Spoiling Your Subconscious Mind and Shaping You

Last week I read the book – “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Dr. Joseph Murphy. It was one of the greatest books I’ve ever read. Although I knew about subconscious mind, hypnosis, and its manipulation, I realized the real power of the subconscious mind only after reading this book.

I was really amazed while reading this book, as it perfectly correlated with many of the things I knew earlier and clarified my doubts on some topics, by filling in the gap.

The book educated me about the power of subconscious mind and how to use it.

However, I felt that there is a need to write a post that explains how we are spoiling our subconscious mind in this new digital era, that is not covered in the book.

This post may change your life. You may never live your life as you are now if you read the post with full comprehension.

The information that I’ve written in this post is mainly based on my experience and research, supported by some of the facts that I read in the life-changing best-seller book – “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind”.

Let’s get started.

What is subconscious mind?

Every human being has one mind. But there are two parts of the mind. They are conscious and sub-conscious minds.

The things we see, hear, talk,… are interpreted by the conscious mind. The decision making, analytical thinking, our verdicts, are all made by our conscious mind.

Our subconscious mind is passive. It blindly accepts whatever the messages conveyed by your conscious mind. It does not question the conscious mind or analyzes the things before accepting it as truth or false.

How to influence subconscious thoughts?

Thoughts that are fed to subconscious mind whether through hypnosis or repetitive suggestions (brainwashing), have a direct effect on your daily life, activities and the way you see things (like a biased eye). For example, an excess of negative suggestions can make you a pessimist who looks always the negative part of the things.

Thoughts can be fed to your subconscious mind directly (unfiltered by conscious mind), only when you are in a hypnotic trance or about to sleep. When the process is gone wrong, hypnosis has the ability to create false memories and beliefs (as the subconscious mind accepts what is fed). This stresses the importance of opting a good hypnotist for hypnosis.

Power of subconscious mind

The subconscious mind is the one that has the ability to carry out thinking activities without our conscious.

Unlike the conscious mind, the subconscious mind never sleeps. It keeps on working throughout your lifetime.

Have you heard of Somatic illnesses or Cyberchondria?

Here it is.

If you think and accept fully that you have an illness at a subconscious level, you will develop that illness! Strange isn’t it?

In Cyberchondria, the anxious patient researches about his illness on the internet. The big Google presents all of the symptoms of his illness. The patient develops one of the symptoms by accepting that he has that symptom, although he does not have it. Hence the name Cyberchondria.

As quoted from the book,

“Your conscious mind acts as gatekeeper guarding from negative thoughts reaching your subconscious mind”.

This is because, whenever you accept an idea in your subconscious mind, it starts working to make the idea you’ve fed to it as true.

For example, the day before the university exam, if you repeat a suggestion that you’ve remembered all the things, the subconscious mind creates all favorable bodily conditions to help you retain the information you’ve read and learned. You actually perform well in exams.

That is why blind belief and prayers miraculously work sometimes. You may think that the believer is blind. But for the believer, his belief is true. He strongly believes that his faith and belief should solve his problem. His subconscious mind accepts it. He will be cured.

Another wonderful example is that of Placebo effect. When you go to a doctor for treatment, a doctor gives you some pills for you to swallow. You witness some relief from your problem the moment you swallowed the pill, although no pill is yet invented to act instantly when you swallow. Yet you get relief! This is due to your subconscious belief that the pills are proved to solve your problem.

There’re some old sayings – “As you think, so you are”, “You are what you think all day long”, “You reap what you sow”.

If you sow vicious thoughts in your subconscious mind, it will later bear you vicious fruits in the form of illnesses and difficulties.

The subconscious mind is your greatest asset. It has the real power. If it’s nurtured in a positive manner, it benefits you and works for you in a positive way.

The ultimate freedom is possible only by purifying the subconscious mind. This purification process is made possible with the help of complete control of the conscious mind.

How modern life is affecting your subconscious mind?

If you think out-of-the-box, you can easily conclude that the world is driven in a negative direction. We are blindfolded of the truth. We are made blind to realize the purpose of life.

Dr. Joseph in his book, said.

“The destructive and negative emotions fed into your subconscious mind find oulets in form of illnesses”.

The major cause of all physical and mental illnesses is the negative and destructive emotions in our subconscious mind.

As you can see, in the last decade, the mental illnesses like ADHD, Anxiety (GAD), and Depression, are on the rise.

Why?

It is due to the lack of knowledge about the potential of subconscious mind among people.

Back in 1890’s when Movies were first introduced, broadcasting the violent scenes were banned. Later, we are made to accustom and now violent scenes are our new normal.

Believe it or not, TVs are the number one reason for spoiling our subconscious minds.

You see violent and negative scenes on films, reality shows and even on the internet on a daily basis. This acts as a repetitive autosuggestion to the inner mind a.k.a the subconscious one.

Even the modern TV advertisements are created so that it builds brand loyalty in the minds of the people.

These type of adverts cause somatic symptoms. The subconscious mind when fed with these type of adverts, it tricks you to believe that you also have an illness, although you are perfectly fine. If you are vulnerable, you’ll surely trigger the illness symptoms. They are gaming your subconscious mind for their commercial benefits.

They are gaming your subconscious mind for their commercial benefits. Many patients go to their doctors and demand them to give them particular medicine watching these ads.

In many of the countries, presenting TV ads on medicines that too psychiatric medicines are banned.

Are you ready to be mind-blown?

For almost all of our digital and entertainment activities we are dependent on screens; whether it is TV or computer monitor.

It is a well-known fact that screens induce a hypnotic trance in you and alter your thinking pattern, after a certain time of looking at it. When you are in this hypnotic trance, you are made to blindly accept the ideas, visuals, negative suggestions, that are played on your TV or computer screens directly into your subconscious minds. What if they are gaming your mind?

Guess what?

When you are in a hypnotic trance, your conscious mind (as per. Joseph Murphy), will not be guarding your subconscious mind.

Examples of repetitive suggestions in the digital world:

  • Watching your favorite movies repeatedly.
  • Listening to your favorite music repeatedly.
  • Watching ads repeatedly.
  • Same news broadcasted again and again, so as to make sure that the masses believe what they report is true.
  • 80% of the Google searches by teens (13 – 19 age) are related to porn. Guess what? Now it’s time for you think if digitalization is more of a good or bad.

The songs we listen are now filled full of ‘F’ bombs. We tune in our favorite songs dozen times in the day; again a repetitive suggestion, that easily penetrates your conscious mind and forms a negative groove on your subconscious mind. No wonder, why the ‘F’ word is more prevalent in the mouths of the people today.

The even worse thing is that many of the insomniac people have the habit of playing their songs in the headphones all night long, or atlas while sleeping. It’s dangerous. Because when you are about to sleep, or when you are sleeping, your conscious mind will be not working. The lyrics you hear in the songs will be fed directly to your subconscious mind.

Educating about self-improvement, subconscious minds, and power of mind should be the part of the education.

Instead, we are made to believe that learning about the things that are beneficial for the corporations is the true education. The irony!

I know. I’m scaring you! Because even I was also scared after realizing this.

It is impossible for you to completely get rid of negative suggestions you come across in your daily life. But I understand. You can’t renounce TV, music, and the internet.

But trust me.

After reading this post you will be affected less by negative thoughts caused by the external world. Because after knowing this, your conscious mind works more in filtering out negative things you come across in life.

Dr. Joseph Murphy says, “Pick up the paper or turn on the television news. Every day, you hear dozens of stories that could sow the seeds of futility, fear, worry, anxiety, and impending doom. If you accept them and take them in, these thoughts of fear can cause you to lose the will for life. However, once you understand that you do not have to accept them, choices open up for you. You have within you the power to counteract all these destructive ideas by giving your subconscious mind constructive autosuggestions. Check regularly on the negative suggestions that people make to you.”

You have to be bullet-proof. You should not let your mind believe everything you watch on TV. You should hear good music (as it is a fact that some music causes hypnotic trance). Being mindfully aware of the fact that your subconscious mind is sensitive to what you see and what you hear, you can easily reduce the harm done to your subconscious mind.

You are what you think all day long!

How to use subconscious mind for your benefit?

If your subconscious mind is left unfed with positive things, you easily glide into the dark rabbit hole.

The need of the hour is that you should dedicate your small time for making positive affirmations or suggestions to your conscious mind so that the positivity will gradually drip into the subconscious mind.

List down some of the common problems you are facing currently.

Craft a suggestion. For example, if you have stage fear and looking forward to overcoming it, then the suggestion may be – “I have no stage fear”. Chant the positive affirmation at least 50 times on one seat. Do it 3 times a day.

Even if the affirmation is false, repetitive affirmation gets accepted by the subconscious mind and is called brainwashing in layman terms.

Once subconscious mind accepts the affirmation or suggestion, it will work hard to make the statement true by conditioning your body, altering your thinking patterns, regulating various hormone secretions, to favor the affirmation you made.

You can practice reading inspirational books, watching self-improvement videos, repeatedly so as to feed your subconscious mind with positive instincts.

Doing positive affirmations when you are about to sleep, or after waking up works great.

Give up the habit of using your digital devices on the bed in the dark, it’s a known cause for insomnia.

This technique can be made to solve problems, illnesses, learn new skills, upgrade new skills, change yourself in a positive way.

All you have to need is a little faith and believe in your affirmations.

This is the little-known secret why prayers, performing rituals with faith – work wonders, at times.

For knowing more on the subconscious mind, how it works, how you can make it work for your benefits (with practical examples and steps) I would strongly recommend you read the book.

The information I presented you in this post is just based on my experience and research about what harm is mass media causing on our minds. It’s totally different from the information in the book, except for some citations.
